Case studies

Case 1

A 4-year lurcher bitch had been coming to Mullacott Veterinary Hospital since she was a puppy. Over the last 12months she accumulated veterinary charges from ourselves and a referral centre in excess of £3,500 to treat lameness and an irregular heart rhythm which caused her to suffer from fits.

Both conditions will require medication for the rest of her life. Fortunately, the owner had the foresight to take out a lifetime insurance policy which has covered the cost of her dog’s treatment to-date and will continue to do so for the rest of the dog’s life.

Case 2

A 7-week old Weimeraner puppy was brought to one of our branch surgeries. She was very sick and so she was transferred to our Veterinary Hospital.

puppyMany tests were undertaken to diagnose what was wrong with her and it became clear that she was suffering from septicaemia and pyoderma. She needed to remain in our hospital for two weeks and required several further visits to the hospital before her conditions had cleared up.

During this time she required a large amount of medication to bring her conditions under control which, when added to the cost of her hospitalisation, came to over £1,000. Luckily the owner’s pet insurance policy covered the cost of her treatment and she is now a healthy, happy young dog.

Case 3

A young cat was rushed to Bridge House Veterinary Hospital after a suspected road traffic accident. After initial investigations and pain relief he was rushed to one of our Veterinary Hospitals in our animal transport van.

His broken jaw wired back together and pins put into one of his hind legs to repair the fracture. He stayed with us for several days until he was able to eat and drink.

The animal transporter van was used to return him to his elderly owner. The bill came to over £1,000 and unfortunately for the owner the cat wasn’t insured.
