Veterinary Surgeons

In addition to the rigorous 5-year training process to qualify as a Veterinary Surgeon, all of our Vets keep up to date by attending courses and reviewing literature. Several amongst them have attained additional qualifications in areas such as Small Animal Surgery, Bovine Reproduction, Equine Stud Medicine and Equine Soft Tissue Surgery, whilst others are studying for additional qualifications in areas such as Small Animal Medicine, Radiology, Anaesthesia and Cattle Health and Production.

Partners

Neil Blake BVSc(Hons) MRCVS

Neil comes from a veterinary background. After qualifying he worked in farm animal practice both in this country and New Zealand before returning to North Devon to join the practice in 2002.

His particular interest lies in cattle health and production including mastitis, lameness and reproduction and is currently studying for the Certificate in Cattle Heath and Production.

 
Dave Tittle BVetMed CertVA MRCVSDave qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London and joined the practice in 2000. His first opinion work is primarily based at Charter Hospital, Roundswell.  His particular interest lies in anaesthesia of all species and critical care of companion animals.In 2010 he obtained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia.

Rob Hawkins BVSc MRCVS

Rob qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1988 and started working in mixed practice in North Devon . After working in Australia for 2 years he to continue to develop his interest in small animal medicine. The formation of Charter Veterinary Hospital Group enabled him to spend all his working time in the small animal side of the practice and is studying for the Certificate in Small Animal Medicine.

Rob is also kept busy by his young family of three boys and in his spare time enjoys dinghy sailing locally on the Taw/Torridge estuary.

Martin Hume BVSc MRCVS

Martin qualified in 1986 and entered mixed practice in North Devon .

After a spell in Australia and New Zealand he return to North Devon where he enjoys all aspects of large animal practice. His particular interest lies in Equine Medicine. He oversaw the recent refurbishment of the equine hospital at Mullacott.

He is married (to Alison) with two boys and enjoys all sports particularly rugby.

Nich Roper BVetMed DBR MRCVS

Nich comes from a farming background in Norfolk. After qualifying in 1992 he worked in a large mixed practice in Kent where he developed his interest in herd and flock health and production.

In 1995 he moved to North Devon where he continued to develop his interests in mastitis, lameness, nutrition and in particular cattle reproduction. In 2004 he obtained the Diploma in Bovine Reproduction. He is optimistic that farming has a future.

Nich is married with two daughters and is a keen squash player.

Simon Thompson BVetMed CertSAS MRCVS

Simon graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1995 with distinction in small animal medicine & surgery. He was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2002. He has particular interest in orthopaedics, neurology and neuroimaging. Simon is based at Charter Veterinary Hospital coordinating our internal and external referral services, treating more challenging surgical cases for other veterinary centres across Devon and Cornwall. He is a member of the British Veterinary Orthopaedics Association and the European College of Veterinary Neurology.

Diagnositic Imaging Consultant

 

Nicolette Hayward BVM&S DVR DipECVDI MRCVS.

Specialist in Diagnositic ImagingNic is a 1986 Edinburgh graduate and spent several years in general practice before specialising in diagnostic imaging at Cambridge University. She gained the RCVS Diploma in Radiology in 2003 and the European Diploma in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2004. In 2004/5 Nic was Lecturer in Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Zurich. She still lectures extensively on continuing professional development courses in the UK.

Nic is interested in all aspects of diagnostic imaging, including radiology, ultrasound, MRI and CT.

Senior Associates

 
David Buckley BVetMed CertESM MRCVS

David qualified from Royal Vet College in 1976, and has spent most of his professional career in North Devon. He helped to develop Mullacott Veterinary Hospital in 1986.
In 2010 David retired from the partnership but we have not lost his experience as he contiues his clinical duties. His primary interest is with the horses, especially reproduction.

He holds the Certificate in Equine Stud Medicine and was responsible for the establishment of the first National Code of practice for Artificial Insemination. He is part of the team responsible for the Equine Surgical side of the practice.In addition to clinical duties he helps with various equine events within the region.

Alison Hume BVSc MRCVS

Alison joined the practice in 1986 initially as a mixed clinician. After a short spell in New Zealand she returned. She now devotes her time to all companion animals.
She holds her first opinion clinics at our Mullacott Veterinary Hospital branch.

Robert Lee BVSc (Hons) MRCVS

Robert qualified at Liverpool University and gained a broad base of experience in the Midlands .

Robert and his wife Ros settled in North Devon in 1985 when they bought Bridge House Veterinary Hospital, which they ran, together with South Street Veterinary Surgery, until the local practices came together to form Charter Veterinary Hospital Group in the year 2000.

At the end of 2009 he retired from the partnership but continues to be fully engaged in companion animal work. He has a special interest in diagnostic imaging, radiology and ultrasound, and is pursuing further qualifications in that field.

Caroline Blake BVSc BSc CertES(Soft Tissue) MRCVS

Caroline did a residency at the Equine Hospital, Liverpool University whilst there she pursued her interest in equine medicine and surgery and obtained the Certificate in Equine Soft Tissue Surgery. More recently she worked in Cheshire before joining the practice in 2003.

 

Nicola Cornish BVetMed MRCVS Nicola has surgeries at our Chartervets South Street and Chartervets Mullacott surgeries. She also can be seen out and about on farm carrying out LVI duties including TB testing

Jennifer Green BVSc MRCVS

Jenny joined the practice in 2010 and come from a veterinary background. She divides her time between the farm animal and equine side of the practice

Peter Green BVSc Cert EO MRCVS Peter started his early veterinary career with this practice before moving to Huntingdon to establish, what became, one of the best known equine practices in the country.  Peter specialised in surgery until his career was interrupted by an injury received from a horse. His recovery has allowed a return to North Devon and equine practice with the team at Mullacott Equine Hospital.
 

Joss Hawkins BVMS MRCVS

Joss has worked in North Devon for many years joining the practice when a Pettets & Partners became part of the Charter Veterinary Hospital Group in 2003.

Joss divides her time between our St Johns Surgery and Mullacott Veterinary Hospital.

Harriet Jarvis BVSc (Hons) MRCVS

Harriet joined the practice in 2007. She has previously worked with all species but is now devoting her time to companion animal medicine and surgery.

Harriet usually hold clinics at our St Johns and Charter Veterinary Hospital branches.

Paul Jarvis BVSc MRCVS

Paul joined the practice in 2004. He works with all large animal species and takes a keen interest in all aspects of equine practice. He is currentstudying for the RCVS Cert AVP equine practice certificate.

Julia Jones BVM&S BSc(Hons) CertSP MRCVS

Julia worked with racing thoroughbreds in The Curragh, Co Kildare, before joining Charter in 2003. Julia enjoys all aspects of farm and equine practice, although she has a particular affinity with cows!
Julia attained a degree in Agriculture with Business Studies before studying Veterinary Medicine and Surgery; she also holds a Certificate in Sheep Practice and has recently started transferring bovine embryos.

Kiera Moynihan BA VetMB MRCVS

Kiera joined the large animals team in Oct 2008.
She works with all large animals species but is particularly interested in farm animal preventative health management.

Romuald Pilejki MRCVS

Romuald joined us in 2009. His principle role is to assist the farm animal team including TB testing.

 

 

Arturas Puodziunas MRCVS

Arturas Joined us in 2007 he has been in the UK 2 years and prior to this he ran his practice back home in Lithuania for 4 years he has an interest in all aspects of farm animals practice.

Jenny Schmidt BVSc MRCVS

Unmistakably antipodean Jenny has worked in mixed practice in the UK for several years before joining the practice in 2003.

She maintains an interest in all species. Jenny is currently on maternity leave.

Katie Whitaker BVetMed MRCVS

Katie join the practice in April 2010. She is interested in all aspects of companion animal care.

Katie holds mosts of her clinics at Mullacott Veterinary Hospital.

Katie is currently on sabatical

Tom Williams BVSc MRCVS

Tom joined CVHG in Sept 2008. He previously worked in a mixed practice.

He is now dedicated to all aspects of companion animal care
