Project Description
As part of our commitment to education and support of our local community we offer a limited number of places for school work experience. Our high standards of care, vast array of diagnostic tools and extensive medical and surgical services allow placement students an insight into the day to day activities of a busy high quality Veterinary Hospital. Students that wish to see practice should be committed, interested and enthusiastic. We encourage questions and would stress that what you get out of your time at Charter Veterinary Hospital Group depends on what you put in. Successful students will be offered a one week placement.
What you can expect:
From a health & safety perspective, veterinary practice is seen as a high risk environment with unpredictable animals that bite and scratch, ionising regulations, gaseous anaesthesia, sharp instruments, medicines, infectious agents, and very stressful and emotional situations. This means that the role of the work experience student is largely one of observation rather than participation.
Tasks undertaken by students on placement include:
Assisting the Nurses and Animal Nursing Assistants, feed, walk and tend to the patients’ needs
Cleaning kennels, utensils, floors and work surfaces
Washing and drying bedding and laundry
Observing Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses administer treatment and medications
Observing procedures and minor operations
Observing Hydrotherapy
Helping with the daily disinfecting and cleaning regime
